RAK Hotel Pick-Up

Safari operators collect guests from Ras Al Khaimah hotels in 4x4 Land Cruisers. Morning safaris depart at 6:00 to 7:00 AM, afternoon safaris at 2:30 to 3:30 PM, and evening safaris at 4:00 to 5:00 PM depending on season. The drive from RAK city to the Al Wadi desert takes 20 to 30 minutes. Hot air balloon flights require a 4:30 to 5:00 AM hotel pick-up for the pre-dawn launch.

RAK desert safaris are available as day and evening trips from Dubai. Pick-up from Dubai hotels between 1:00 and 2:00 PM for evening safaris, with the drive taking approximately 75 minutes via the E311 highway. Return to Dubai by 9:00 to 10:00 PM. Desert safaris operate daily year-round with fixed departure slots. Evening safaris are the most popular and include the BBQ dinner camp experience. Hot air balloon flights launch at dawn, approximately 5:30 to 6:00 AM depending on season, and are weather-dependent. Flights may be cancelled in high winds. Tours may be rescheduled during rare sandstorms. Ramadan doesn't affect safari schedules but camp dining is served after sunset during the holy month.

4x4 Vehicles and Safety Equipment

All dune bashing is conducted in professionally maintained Toyota Land Cruisers with roll cages, reinforced suspension, and deflated tyres for maximum dune grip. Vehicles carry first-aid kits, satellite communication, and GPS tracking. Seatbelts are mandatory throughout the ride.

BBQ Dinner and Refreshments

Evening safari packages include a full BBQ dinner at the desert camp: grilled meats, chicken, salads, hummus, flatbreads, and seasonal fruits. Vegetarian options are available on request. Soft drinks, water, Arabic coffee, and dates are complimentary. Shisha is available at the camp lounge area.

On-Site Washroom Facilities

Desert camps are equipped with clean, serviced washroom facilities. Most camps have Western-style seated toilets and wash basins. Hand sanitiser stations are placed throughout the camp area. Premium camps offer air-conditioned washroom blocks.

Vehicle-Based Accessibility

The dune bashing experience is passenger-based, so guests who can sit in a vehicle can participate. Camel riding requires the ability to mount and balance on a camel saddle. Guests with limited mobility can enjoy the desert camp experience with BBQ dinner, entertainment, and stargazing without participating in active rides. Notify operators at booking to ensure accessible seating arrangements.

Age and Health Restrictions

Dune bashing isn't recommended for pregnant women, guests with severe back or neck conditions, or children under 4 years old. Hot air balloon flights have a minimum age of 5 and maximum weight of 120 kg. Camel riding requires a minimum age of 3 with accompanying adult supervision. All participants must sign a waiver before desert activities.

Alcohol and Dress Guidelines

Alcohol isn't served at desert camps. Guests are advised to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and closed-toe shoes or sandals with straps. Flip-flops aren't recommended due to hot sand. Bring a light jacket for cooler evenings between November and February. During Ramadan, food is served after sunset only.
