Sharm el-Sheikh sits at the southern tip of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. This is exactly where the intensely arid desert plunges directly into the magnificent waters of the Red Sea. It is widely known as a leading diving and snorkelling destination. Many coral reef areas near Sharm El Sheikh are protected within and around Ras Mohammed National Park. It is a massive marine reserve consistently ranked among the top dive sites on the planet. The underwater visibility regularly exceeds 30 metres. The reefs support rich marine biodiversity with hundreds of fish species.

Beyond the marine life, Sharm offers desert safari experiences across the Sinai interior. You can take sunrise excursions to Mount Sinai. You must visit the historic 6th-century St. Catherine's Monastery. Naama Bay is known for its restaurants, cafés, shops, and nightlife. The town enjoys sunshine throughout most of the year. You get completely warm Red Sea waters even in the dead of winter. It offers a large resort infrastructure suitable for families, couples, and solo travellers. Direct flights from Europe and the Middle East make Sharm El Sheikh easily accessible for international travellers.

Seyahat Rehberinin Tamamını Okuyun

Sharm El Sheikh International Airport conveniently receives direct flights from major European cities like London, Manchester, and Berlin. Middle Eastern hubs like Dubai and Riyadh also connect directly. Domestic flights from Cairo and Hurghada usually take around one hour. Overland travel from Cairo usually takes approximately 6 to 8 hours by road. Many resorts offer airport transfer services. The quick drive from the airport straight to Naama Bay only takes 15 minutes.

Sharks Bay offers a quieter atmosphere and easy access to diving and resort areas. Sharks Bay offers a much quieter scene, sitting significantly closer to Ras Mohammed National Park. This makes it completely ideal for serious divers. Nabq Bay mostly offers large all-inclusive resorts, highly popular with traveling families. Huge luxury options include the Four Seasons and Rixos. The all-inclusive packages generally deliver excellent overall value. All-inclusive packages can offer good value depending on season and hotel category.

Taxis serve as the absolute primary transport. They are incredibly cheap but you must strictly agree on a total fare well before getting inside. They do not use traditional meters. A quick ride within the core resort strip from Naama Bay over to Sharks Bay costs roughly 50 to 100 EGP. Local minibuses steadily run along the main coastal road for just 10 EGP a ride. Most prominent dive centres and big tour operators completely include full hotel pick-up. Renting a car is possible but deeply unnecessary. The main resort areas are totally compact.

Many visiting nationalities quickly receive a totally free Sinai-only entry stamp. It remains highly valid for 15 days. This strictly covers Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, and the greater Sinai Peninsula. It does not cover the rest of mainland Egypt. A full Egyptian visa allows major travel to Cairo or Luxor. A visa-on-arrival costs $25 USD and provides a single entry for 30 days. You can also easily grab e-visas in advance totally online through visa2egypt.gov.eg. Just ensure your passport is valid for at least six full months.

Daha İyi Bir Gezi İçin Akıllı İpuçları

Yaygın hatalardan kaçının ve bu uygulanabilir içgörülerle yerel biri gibi seyahat edin.

  • Dive Ras Mohammed National Park First Must Do

Ras Mohammed is widely known as one of Egypt’s most famous diving and snorkelling areas. And it sits just 20 minutes from Sharm by boat. The reef walls at Shark and Yolanda Reef descend steeply into deep Red Sea waters. The underwater visibility easily exceeds 30 metres. Even surface snorkellers can clearly see reef sharks, huge turtles, and heavily dense coral gardens right in the shallows. Book a very early morning boat trip to totally beat other groups.

  • Climb Mount Sinai for Sunrise Iconic Experience

The towering 2,285-metre summit of Mount Sinai delivers one of the most spectacular sunrises in the entire Middle East. Great tours depart Sharm right at midnight. You drive two and a half hours to the main mountain base and begin the three-hour hike completely in the dark. The final summit totally rewards you with a panoramic sweeping view across the Sinai mountains right as the sun breaches the horizon. Dress warmly because temperatures plunge below five degrees Celsius at the top.

  • Visit the Old Market for Authentic Shopping Local Tip

Skip the vastly overpriced hotel gift shops. Head straight to the famous Old Market for properly handcrafted souvenirs, fresh spices, local perfume oils, and traditional Egyptian textiles at totally real local prices. The market deeply comes alive in the evening. Arrive well after six for the absolute best buzzing atmosphere. Aggressive bargaining is completely expected and highly part of the fun cultural experience. Confidently start your offers at 40 percent of the asking price.

  • Book a Desert Safari with Bedouin Dinner Adventure

The massive Sinai desert interior looks dramatically different from the busy coastline. High-speed quad bike and camel safaris take you directly into the rugged interior. You get to see exactly where traditional Bedouin communities proudly maintain their historic way of life. The absolute best packages heavily include a gorgeous sunset ride. This is followed by an incredible dinner right under the stars at an authentic Bedouin camp. You get freshly grilled local food and pure Arabic tea.

  • Carry Cash in EGP for Local Spending Practical Tip

Hotels and massive dive centres absolutely accept credit cards. But local street shops, taxis, traditional markets, and small restaurants fully operate on direct cash. You can easily find reliable ATMs sitting around Naama Bay and the main airport. The Egyptian Pound serves as the true local currency. US dollars are also very widely accepted for major tours and big excursions. You will absolutely get highly better rates if you simply pay for everything directly in EGP.
