What to Pack for Kaş in August?

When packing for your trip to Kaş in August, focus on light and airy clothes to keep yourself comfortable and cool in the heat. Opt for shorts, tank tops, sundresses, and sandals that are not only stylish but also easy to slip on and off as you move between the beach and local cafes. Don’t forget to pack a swimsuit for those fun-filled days at the beach or pool, along with high-SPF sunscreen to protect your skin from sunburn. It’s essential to reapply sunscreen regularly, especially after swimming or sweating, to ensure maximum protection. For added sun safety, a wide-brimmed hat and polarized sunglasses are also important to shield your face and eyes from the strong sunlight, preventing glare and helping you see more clearly while you explore.

While it can be warm during the day, evenings might surprise you with a bit of a chill, so it’s wise to consider bringing a light jacket or cardigan for those cooler moments when the sun sets and the temperature drops. If your plans include outdoor activities or sightseeing around the stunning coastal area, pack comfortable walking shoes that provide good support, as you may find yourself exploring ancient ruins or winding streets for hours. Remember to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated during your adventures; however, be cautious and avoid drinking the tap water, as it’s not safe for consumption.

Lastly, make sure to have some Turkish lira on hand for small purchases or local eateries, or be ready with your payment cards that are widely accepted in many places. Don’t forget to include a beach towel, snorkeling gear for exploring the vibrant underwater life, and a travel guidebook to enhance your experience by helping you discover hidden gems and local attractions. Top Attractions to Visit in Kaş in August

Antiphellos Ancient City

Antiphellos is a place above Kaş, known as an important port city of the Lycia Civilization. It was originally built as the port for the ancient city of Phellos, near Çukurbağ village. Over time, it grew due to the cedar wood trade and became separate from Phellos. The ancient ruins scattered around Kaş show its rich history, although the area outside the ancient theater is not well-kept. The ancient theater is unique because it is the only one in Anatolia facing the sea. Built during the Hellenistic period from local limestone, it can hold 3,000 people and was restored in 2008, making it a great place to watch the sunset for free.

Around the theater is a necropolis with graves from different times. One special tomb is the Akdam Dor Grave, which has carvings of women holding hands, making it a unique find in Lycia. Sadly, the decorations on the tomb are now covered in soot from past fires. The King’s Tomb at the entrance of the Long Bazaar is one of the best-preserved sarcophagi today. It's unclear if it belonged to a king, but its name comes from the lion heads on it. There are also three other solid sarcophagi in the market area and at the harbor entrance. If you look at the rocky hill behind Kaş, you can see two ancient rock tombs from the early days of Antiphellos.

The water systems in ancient Lycia used cisterns, and only two of the many cisterns from the Hellenistic and Roman times in Antiphellos still exist today. At Kaş Harbor, the cistern next to Echo Bar is open for visitors. It has lights, a roof held up by seven columns, and is carved from the rock, all free to explore. On the path to the ancient theater, you can find the remains of what is thought to be a Hellenistic temple, along with pieces of sarcophagi placed around it.

Kaputaş Beach

Kaputaş Beach is famous for its beautiful turquoise waters and steep cliffs. It’s a must-see spot for anyone visiting the Kaş area. Located about 20 kilometers west of Kaş, you can easily get there by car or bus. A nice drive along the coast takes you to a parking area, but you’ll need to walk down about 200 steps to get to the beach.

Once you’re there, you can relax and have fun. The beach is great for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling in the clear water, where you can see colorful fish. It's a good idea to bring your own snacks and drinks since there aren’t many facilities. The natural beauty of Kaputaş makes it worth it. Just be careful of the tides, as they can affect swimming conditions. Whether you want adventure or a peaceful day by the sea, Kaputaş Beach is a memorable place to visit in Turkey.

Patara Beach

Patara Beach is one of Turkey's longest sandy beaches, stretching 18 kilometers and located about 40 kilometers east of Kaş. Known for its natural beauty and historical value, it is part of Patara National Park, which helps protect the loggerhead sea turtle that nests there.

At Patara Beach, visitors can find sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, making it easy to relax by the sea. There are also small cafes near the entrance where you can buy snacks and drinks. The beach has soft, golden sand and shallow areas that are great for families with kids. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try water sports like kite surfing, or you can walk along the beach to look for unique shells and stones.

To get to Patara Beach from Kaş, you can take a scenic drive along the coast, which takes about 40 minutes. There are also public minibuses that run regularly between Kaş and Patara, offering an easy and affordable way to travel. When you arrive, you'll be greeted by stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, making Patara Beach a perfect spot for both relaxation and adventure.
