- 10 min læsningDubai is full of surprises. One minute you’re walking through sun-drenched streets, and the next, you’re stepping into a snow-covered mountain, right inside a mall. Sounds unreal? That’s what Ski Dubai is all about. It’s cold, it’s snowy, and it’s located neatly inside Mall of the Emirates, waiting for you to step in and grab a pair of skis.
Whether you're just curious about snow or you're someone who misses real winter fun, this place has it all, skiing, snowboarding, snowball fights, penguins, zip lines, and even a cinema that plays movies while you snuggle in jackets.
Let’s start with the basics. Ski Dubai opened its doors back in 2005 and quickly became one of the coolest (literally) indoor spots in the city. You’ll find it inside Mall of the Emirates, right along Sheikh Zayed Road, and yes, it stays open year-round, even when it’s 45°C outside.
The space covers over 22,000 square meters, which is huge. Inside, it’s always between –2°C and –4°C, and the snow is real, made from water, without any weird chemicals. There's an indoor mountain about 85 meters high, and you’ll find five snow-covered slopes, including a 400-meter-long one with a decent drop. Whether you're new to the snow or have been on skis your whole life, the place is set up for all kinds of winter fun.
And if skiing isn't your thing? No worries. There’s a whole Snow Park, a Penguin Encounter, a Snow Cinema, and even a zipline called the Snow Bullet. More on all of that in a bit.
You’d think an indoor ski resort might have just a couple of slopes and call it a day, but Ski Dubai is packed with things to do. You don’t need to be a skier to have a good time here, though if you’ve ever wanted to learn, this is one of the easiest places to start.
Let’s go over each area and what makes it worth checking out.
This is the main part of Ski Dubai, and it's where all the skiing and snowboarding action happens. There are five slopes, each with its own level of difficulty, perfect if you want to work your way up from beginner to advanced. The longest one is 400 meters and has a nice drop that gives you just enough speed without making it scary.
Getting up the mountain is easy thanks to a quad chairlift and drag lifts. If you're new to skiing or snowboarding, no stress. You don’t have to bring anything, jackets, boots, skis, boards, and helmets are all included when you book a session. Just wear warm socks and maybe buy gloves if you forget to bring some.
Ski gear rental is part of the package, but gloves and beanies are usually extra. You can buy them right there if needed.
Highlights:
Not into skiing? No problem. The Snow Park is where the real winter fun begins, no skis required. This huge area is made for kids, families, and anyone who just wants to play around in the snow.
You can jump into tubing lanes, go tobogganing, or take a spin inside a giant Zorb Ball. There’s also a snowball zone, climbing towers, and even an ice cave if you're in the mood to explore something different. It's the perfect hangout if you just want to enjoy winter vibes without worrying about technique or falling over.
Highlights:
One of the most heartwarming experiences at Ski Dubai is the Penguin Encounter. This isn’t your average animal exhibit; you get to meet and interact with real Gentoo and King penguins in a specially designed sub-zero habitat. The sessions are guided by expert trainers who not only introduce you to these adorable creatures but also share fascinating facts about their behavior, diet, and conservation efforts.
Depending on the ticket, guests may enjoy a group session or a more exclusive VIP experience. And yes, photos are encouraged, and you might even get a chance to high-five a penguin.
Highlights:
If watching a movie in freezing temperatures wrapped in a blanket sounds crazy, it is. But it’s also surprisingly cozy and fun. The Snow Cinema, created in partnership with VOX Cinemas, is a one-of-a-kind experience where you watch blockbuster movies on the snow, complete with surround sound and bean bags wrapped in faux fur.
You’ll get thermal gear, gloves, a blanket, and even hot chocolate, all included in your ticket. Whether you're on a date or just want to do something out-of-the-box in Dubai, this is a top pick.
Highlights:
New to snow sports? No worries. The Ski & Snowboard School at Ski Dubai is perfect for beginners, kids, or anyone wanting to sharpen their technique. Certified instructors guide you through each step, and there are tailored sessions for different age groups and skill levels.
Whether you’re taking your first slide or training for advanced carving, lessons are available in private, group, or family formats.
Highlights:
Feeling adventurous? The Snow Bullet is an indoor zipline that takes you flying 16 meters above the snow-covered park. It's thrilling but safe, perfect for adrenaline lovers who want a different view of Ski Dubai.
Glide across the park for 150 meters in a harness, watching people skiing and playing below. Don’t worry, all safety gear and briefing are part of the package.
Highlights:
When you're ready to defrost and recharge, Ski Dubai offers two cozy dining spots: Avalanche Café (inside the snow zone) and North 28 (just outside the main entrance).
Avalanche Café serves hot drinks and light bites with panoramic views of the ski slope. Imagine sipping a hot chocolate while watching people zip down snowy hills, that’s the vibe. North 28 is more of a full-service restaurant, perfect for a hearty lunch or dinner before or after your snow adventure.
Highlights:

Take the Red Line Metro and get off at the Mall of the Emirates Station. It’s connected to the mall via a short walk through an air-conditioned bridge.
Taxis in Dubai are reliable and metered. Just tell your driver “Mall of the Emirates” and you’ll be dropped at the main entrance.
If you're nearby, use Careem, Uber, or e-scooters for quick access.
Tip: Arrive 15–20 minutes early, especially if it’s your first visit. You’ll need time to change into thermal gear and sign waivers.
To make the most of your chilly adventure, here are some handy tips:
Whether you're a snow lover, thrill-seeker, or just looking to escape the desert heat by doing some indoor activities in Dubai, Ski Dubai offers a winter wonderland unlike any other in the Middle East. From skiing and snowboarding to playing with penguins or simply sipping hot chocolate in an ice-cold café, there’s something here for everyone.
The best part? You don’t need to fly to Switzerland or wait for winter. Just head to Mall of the Emirates and step into a snowy escape right in the heart of Dubai.
So grab your gloves, layer up, and get ready to experience snow magic, without leaving the city.
Yes, Ski Dubai is open every day throughout the year, with consistent hours regardless of the season. It operates within Mall of the Emirates and keeps the entire ski and snow zone at around –2 °C to –4 °C, so snow is always available.
Definitely. The Ski & Snowboard School at Ski Dubai offers beginner lessons for both children (aged 3+) and adults (14+). Lessons run in group or private formats with certified instructors, and all necessary equipment (except gloves) is included.
The Snow Park area is suitable for children aged 2 and above. Toddlers under 2 are not permitted inside the snow zones. Attractions like gentle snow slides and supervised play zones are ideal for little ones, but adult supervision is required in certain zones.
No worries, Ski Dubai provides full snow outfits (jacket, pants, snow boots, helmet) as part of most tickets or lesson packages. Gloves aren’t usually included, so you'll want to bring gloves or buy them on-site for extra warmth and grip.
Expect to spend around:
Yes, you’re allowed to bring personal gear. That said, most visitors rely on the rental options provided onsite. Some Reddit users suggest that owning your own boots, helmet, or board can make learning easier over multiple visits, especially if you’re practicing snowboarding or skiing repeatedly.
While the temperature inside is around –2 °C to –4 °C (sometimes down to –6 °C overnight when snow is made), the exposure is generally short (2–5 hours max). With proper thermal gear provided and gloves worn, the risk of frostbite is extremely low. Just stay dry, take breaks if needed, and change out of the gear promptly if it gets wet.
